A closer look at NSIPs...

We look at what Nationally Important Infrastructure projects are and the role that private companies and fund management companies play in building nationally important solar energy infrastructure across the UK.

Farming under threat...

Mike Wrout, a 3rd generation Romney Marsh farmer talks about his passion for farming and his fears about the threat from solar sprawl.

Coming to a field near me...

Amanda from HOOM takes you on a tour of the productive crop fields around her area which could be turned into one of the new breed, mega-sized solar and battery storage power stations if the scheme is eventually approved by the government.

Newchurch Substation Impact

The proposed 400Kv substation being scoped for Newchurch would dominate a historical landscape.  The sheer size and scale of the station (approx 800m x 400m) imposing itself upon this quiet rural farming community.

Food Security

Only 3% of agricultural land in the UK (approx 260,000 acres) is grade 1 farmland and only approximately 17% is grade 2.  This land is essential for our food supply.  The UK is approximately 60% food independent.  Eating into this precious resource, when there are many other places from brown field sites to commercial roofing spaces, to situate solar will threaten our food independence further.

These aren't friendly solar farms.

These NSIP solar farms aren't lovable, nature encouraging solar farms as promoted by the sales talk.  The panels are upto 4 metres high and placed in an East West formation.  There's no room for nature.  Just a sea of black panels putting the land into darkness.

National Community Walk, June 8th, 2025

Residents and visitors to Romney Marsh came together to raise awareness of the devastating scale of solar and battery scheme proposals on Romney Marsh with a walk around part of the site proposed for Old Romney and its surrounding settlements.
