UPDATE
The TEC Register list of projects in the 'grid connection queue' lists more future energy capacity than the UK actually needs. Following DESNZ's December 2024 'Clean Power 2030' policy announcement it is likely that the list will be reprioritised in 2025 and many projects will be removed. We will keep you up to date here on developments that affect the Marsh locally, positively or negatively.

NSIPs
Projects over 50MW are called Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) which go through the national Planning Inspectorate and are decided by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). This typically takes up to 5 years. Local council planning departments can input into the consultation process but ultimately the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero approves or refuses plans.
Locally-decided projects
A further number of smaller solar projects are also proposed for the area including a 16MW solar farm at St Mary in the Marsh and a 35MW project between Woodchurch and Kenardington. This will be decided by FHDC and Ashford planning departments respectively.
